"Sadhana Bose, an Indian film actress, and famous dancer, was born on April 20th, 1914, to parents Saral Chunder Sen and Nirmala Sen. She is the granddaughter of Brahmakesari Keshab Chandra Sen, and lived in a Braho household, receiving the required education that she allowed at that time. At a young age itself, she was married off to Madhu Bose, a filmmaker who was working in West Bengal. After her marriage, she had joined Calcutta Art Players, owned by her husband. Initially, she had acted as the heroine of many plays directed by her husband, before venturing into the film world with Alibaba (1937), which became an instant hit. After that, she had acted in several films which were directed by her husband, that led to her becoming an established actress in Bengal.
The husband-wife duo then moved on to Bombay to achieve further success through Kumkum (1940), which was a bilingual film, made in Hindi and Bengali and reached greater heights by creating the first trilingual film, in Hindi, Bengali, and English, Rajnartaki (1941). She continued working with various directors, establishing herself in the cinema world, without the backing of her husband. Unfortunately, Bose had become addicted to powers of fame and succumbed to drinking and partying habits which resulted in her losing her husband as well as her career.
Even though she had a reconcilement with Madhu Bose, and had acted in his films, she never received the previous attention she had from the audience. As she was primarily a dancer, she then started her dance troupe, toured around India for plays such as Wither Now, Hunger and more, which was well received by the people. This was not enough to sustain her career. Her husband had gotten ill and was not able to receive proper treatment, leading to his death in 1969. She was also not able to support herself, ultimately leading to begging on the Pak street of Bengal, eventually passing on in 1973."
