He belongs to a Sindhi family. He was interested in sports and drama. His father was an audit officer. He later married Latika, who is an actress. They married under the Civil Marriage Act. He had two sons.

He moved to Mumbai and marked his acting debut career in the Moti Gidwani’s film Insaan Ya Shaitan (1933), produced by Eastern Art productions.
