Mirabai Chanu is a well-known Indian weightlifter. Her date of birth is 8 August 1994. Her birthplace is Nongpok, Kakching, Imphal, Manipur. Her coaches are Vijay Sharma and Aaron Horschig. At the young age of twelve, his parents identified his talents when she could easily carry the big bundle of fireworks. She got training in Manipur at Sports Academy.  In 2014, at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow, she got her first break by winning silver in the weight category of 48kg. She qualified for the Rio Olympics 2016 in the women's 48kg weight category.

In 2017, she won gold in the World Weightlifting Championship, Anaheim United States, by lifting 194kg(85 kg snatch and 109 kg clean & jerk), In the 2018 Commonwealth Games, she won gold by lifting 196 kg (86 kg in Snatch and 110 kg in Clean and Jerk). By breaking her records, Mirabai finished in fourth position by lifting 201 kg (87kg in Snatch, and 114 kg in Clean and Jerk) in the 2019 Commonwealth Games.2020 Senior National Weightlifting Championships, she clinched gold by lifting 203kg(88 kg in Snatch and 115 kg in Clean & Jerk) in the 49kg category. In the 2020 Asian Weightlifting Championship, she won the bronze medal.

In 2020, she became the only weightlifter to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. She became the first Indian weightlifter to win silver at the Olympics in the 49kg category with a total lift of 205kg. In the 2022  Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Chanu won gold in the 49kg category. In the 2022 World Weightlifting Championship, Bogota Chanu clinched a silver medal.

Chanu was honored with various awards for her contribution to sports. In 2018, she received the highest sporting honor in India, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. The same year, she was honored with the fourth highest Indian civilian award, the Padma Shri Award. She received various cash prizes for winning a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics from government organizations. In addition to sports, on the life of Mirabai Chanu, a play, Mei Iklaba Thamoi, was made by Shougrakpam Hemanta. Her biopic will also be made by Seuti Films, directed by OC Meira, and a screenplay by Manaobi MM.
