Yog guru Anand Giri is an Indian spiritual leader acknowledged for his luxurious lifestyle. His fetish for expensive cars and traveling the world in saffron clothes is flamboyant. Many saints detest his way to approach life. He once was expelled from his post because of a dispute with his guru.
Anand Giri (real name Ashoka Chotia) was born in 1983 in Rajasthan. He belongs to a lower-middle-class Brahmin family. His father is a farmer. He was extremely close to his mother who passed away recently. His family claims that he left home at a younger age to preach priesthood. He holds a graduation degree from Banaras Hindu University and a Ph.D. in yoga tantra. He was a disciple of Mahant Narendra Giri and was known as “Chote Maharaj” at Bade Hanuman Mandir in Prayagraj. Even though he lived a non -ascetic life, his close relationship with his guru helped him get his post back.
Anand Giri became notable when his name appeared in a case of sexual assault in Sydney against two women in 2019. He became talk of the town when he was suspected in Mahant Narendra’s suicide case. Many suicide notes were found that accused him of blackmailing Mahant. He was arrested by the police on 20th September 2021 and was sent for 14 days of judicial custody on 22nd. At present, he is kept in Naini central jail.
