Sunny Hindustani

Sunny Hindustani is an Indian playback singer who predominantly works in the Hindi film industry. Sunny took over the internet with his soulful singing in Indian Idol. By winning the show, he proved that hard work and perseverance are the key to success. Born as Sunny Malik on 23rd July 1998 at Amarpura, Bathinda in Punjab, Sunny hails from a middle-class family whose father Nanak Ram is a shoe shiner, and his mother Soma is a balloon seller. He has three sisters, namely Rekha, Maya, and Sakina. Sunny was inclined towards music since childhood, as his father was also a singer and aspired to become a singer. He pursued his schooling from Government Senior Secondary School in Bathinda. But things didn’t go well for Sunny, as he had to drop out of his school because of his father’s sudden demise. So, he became the breadwinner of the family and took up the job as a shoe shiner near Bathinda Railway Station. Also, in the free time, he performed at events and functions in nearby villages.

In 2019, Sunny Hindustani sung a song called Akhiyan De Buhe and Mairi Wale To Bina for TMC Punjabi. In the same year, he appeared in the variety entertainment reality show Entertainment KeLiyeKuchBhiKarega on Sony TV. His biggest breakthrough came in 2020 when he applied for Indian Idol auditions in Chandigarh. Sunny performed the song Afreen Afreen by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, which blew the judges by surprise. He passed the auditions with a standing ovation and got selected as one of the fifteen contestants for the 11th season of the popular reality show Indian Idol. Sunny Hindustani displayed much talent in the show by enthralling the audience and judges. The judges and the audience praised him for recreating the songs of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,

whom he considers as his idol. Even with no musical knowledge, he grabbed a spot in the grand finale of the show. Eventually, he won the show with a huge number of votes. Along with the Indian Idol title and trophy, he also got a cash prize of Rs. 25 lakh and a car. Following his winning, Sunny Hindustani signed under the label T-Series.
