Sardool Sikander, famously called the Surran Da Sikander, was a Punjabi singer, composer, and actor. He was born on 15th January 1961 in Kheri Naudh Singh, a village in the district of Fatehgarh, Punjab. He completed his schooling there and graduated from Punjab University. His father was the late Sagar Mastana, a famous tabla player himself, known for inventing a special kind of tabla that is played by using a thin bamboo stick. He belonged to the Patiala Gharana of music, one of the Hindustani classical vocal gharanas. His career began in the early 80s when he started making radio and television appearances with his introductory album Roadways Di Laari. It was after he sang Roadways Di Laari on a television show, Raunak Mela that he became a household name in Punjab. His music focused on Punjabi pop and folk genres. In his 30-year career, he released 27 albums and was included in over 50 derivative albums. His album Husna De Malko, released on 1 August 1991, sold 5.1 million copies globally and continues to sell. 

He has notably sung many religious songs like Darsh Maiya Da Keeta (2004), Maa Raniye Amrit Se Meetha Tera Naam (2013) etc. His film career started in 1991, with his first feature, Jagga Daku, a Punjabi film, where he played the character of a police inspector. He went on to do around 10 films, Police in Pollywod (2014) being the last one. Sikander tested positive for COVID-19 after he was infected while undergoing treatment following his kidney transplant. He passed away on 24 February 2021 in Fortis Hospital Mohali, in Chandigarh, and was 60 years old at his demise.
