Mahesh Chander is an Indian composer. He was also a well-known poet and singer. He was born on 30th September 1942 in Tharushah in Sindh in Pakistan. He is currently living in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Mahesh Chander’s father is Master Chander Sahib, a very famous musician, exceptionally experienced in Sindhi music. Mahesh is skilled in Urdu ghazals, classical music, and Sindhi Music. Mahesh released his first track in 1965. Mahesh Chander released the albums Silsila Zulf ka jab Rokh pe bikhar Jata hai in Urdu and Sija Ubir Na Toon in his lifetime. He composed the poem Geet Naya Gata Hun by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It was written as a part of an HMV album in 2000. As a singer, Mahesh Chander sang Oo Sija Ubir na Toon, Shal Raat Huje and also performed in the movies Maikhana as a Ghazal singer and Pyase Nain as a playback singer. Pyase Nain was released in 1989 and directed by Kidar Nath Sharma. Mahesh also gave his voice to songs in the Sindhi movie Hal Diyar Na Jaman.

Some of Chander’s most famous compositions include Jo Zuban-e Dil na Samajh Sake from Patharon Ka Shaher (1972); Tum Is Dil-E-Vehshi Ki, Meri Bahon Pe, and Ik Shab Ke Musafir from Shah Ke Musafir (1986); To Ta Banhyari Kiyan Bori from Hi Sur Sindhu A Jaa (1977); Tujh Tasveera and Barsat Ji Mausam from Sindhi Sangeet Volume 1; Nandri Nandri Nandri Ahiyan, Dil Hanaji Aai Muhinji Hika Aa, Father Jokel, Lal Kalandar Jhule, Bhagat Kanwarram, Jhulelal Jhulelal, and Kabootar Kabootar from Aaya Dhinhara Sawana Jha; Kahinjo Habib, Sij Ubir Na Toon, Aayal Huyaras Keena Ayani, and Ghano Ee Pahinji Dil from Sij Ubir Na Toon; and Apne Hi Man Se, Rote Rote Raat, Jeevan Ki Dhalne, Geet Naya Gata Hun and Na Main Chup Hoon from Geet Naya Gata Hun (2000).

Due to his extraordinary talent, Mahesh Chander was given the title of Singer with the Velvet Voice. Some of the awards that Mahesh has won include the Sur Singer Sansad award from the Shab-e-Ghazal Programme in 1976, the Trophy of Excellence in Music given by the Sahyog Foundation in 1992, the Bhagwanti Navani Award presented by the organization TIPS in 1993, a Trophy in music presented by the Sindhi International Panjchayat in 1995, and the Gaurav Puraskar awarded by the Suvidha Foundation in 1998.
