Akhu Chingangbam

Akhu Chingangbam is a lyricist, singer, and founder of the band. His exceptional talent and yearning for the musical instruments enabled him to become a founder of a band with exquisite love and blessings showering from his fans.

His band “Imphal talkies” and “Howlers” which started in 2008, is a great success and loved by everyone across the country. Akhu is a resident of Manipur, whereas he has completed his studies in a metropolitan city, Delhi.

He is a physicist by profession but chose music as a career. He started singing when he was acquiring is a Ph.D. degree from Delhi. His father, Mr.Ramkumar, and mother Mrs. Lembi hails from East Imphal, Manipur.

An excellent student from a prestigious university, Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi Akhu completed his graduation with a degree in physics. For his further studies, he went abroad and gained a degree in Doctorate from Thai University.

Akhil had been involved in several music projects all over with his band which includes, Sachidananda Angom, Irom Singthoi, Chaoba Thiyam, and Karnajit Laishram. The audience…. applauds the lyrics in the songs rather than the music in it; on being asked, Akhu accepts it and calls himself more of a poet than a singer.

The use of ‘Pena’ is very dominant in his music, but he prefers guitar as it seems to him as unlimited. The artist’s music was identified as more of against the political setup in the state. The singer agrees that his music is, most of the time, angry and raises the voice against the politics in the state.

His first song,” All We Need Is Love,” was appreciated by everyone. The song was shot partly in Imphal and partly in Shillong. One of his well-known songs, “the native tongue of peace,” is a true heart touching song to promote peace in Manipur. The song’s motive was to promote peace and harmony among the communities of Manipur.

Akhu himself has taught this music to many children of the village. The artist has a series of works through writing or lyrics as an attempt to uplift the political conditions.

However, in 2016 Akhu lost his hearing ability of one year in an accident. Akhu is truly loved among the youth and received abundant appreciation for his efforts through lyrics
