Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty is an Indian classical vocalist. Ajoy was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. His father shifted to India from his homeland, Mymensingh of Bangladesh due to the partition and raised two sons in Shyamnagar.

His younger brother, Sanjay, is a lyricist and composer. He was as a topper of his class in music, both in B.A and M.A from one of the most prestigious Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata and later joined the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in 1977.

His father was his first Guru. Ajoy then studied with Pannalal Samanta and Jnan Prakash Ghosh. He received several prestigious awards, which include the Padma Shri (2011), Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Kumar Gandharva National Award, the Best Male Playback Singer Award (Bengali Film "Chhandaneer" 1990), and National Tansen Samman 2015 - by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

He received felicitations from both the former and present CM’s of his State, West Bengal. CM of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee awarded him the Maha Sangeet Samman and the Banga Bibhushan, which are two of the State’s highest awards in 2011.

He was awarded honorary citizenship in New Orleans, for performing with jazz musicians at Preservation Hall, the birthplace of jazz music.
