Devika Bhagat is an Indian screenwriter and director in the Hindi ﬁlm industry since 2001. She was born in
and is a graduate of Convent of Jesus and Mary school in Delhi and United World College of the Atlantic in Wales, UK. She is a BFA graduate of Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, in Film and Television Production. She is currently residing in Mumbai.
She is active on social media platforms, and she recently launched her E-store, karmacoma.com. It consists of her favorite works and her creations. Devika Bhagat never anticipated becoming an author. In the wake of moving to Mumbai, she began helping on a few movies just to acknowledge how stagnated she felt. She knew she needed to compose herself. In the ﬁlm business, her ﬁrst employment was in 2001 as a post assistant for ‘Monsoon Wedding’. In 2010, as an intern, she composed an Indian parody show TV Series, ‘
’, which aired on Sony Entertainment.
In one of her interviews, Devika said that the inspiration behind the story for Mahi Way was her childhood. She recalls that she was fat in her teenage years, and her experiences were the building blocks for the story. She has also been the assistant director in the movies ‘Dreaming Lhasa’, ‘In Othello’ and ‘The Bourne Supremacy’. She was also the Dialogue writer, story and screenplay writer for the film ‘I, Me aur Main’ starring
. After writing scripts for about six Hindi movies, such as, ‘
Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Manorama Six Feet Under
’, and ‘
Bachna Ae Haseeno
’. Devika appeared as the director of the film ‘One by Two’.
Aisha is an adaptation of Jane Austin's Emma and
played the lead role. One by Two is a romantic comedy, and she felt that it was a safe theme for her debut work.
Getting from the theory of 'six degrees of partition', the film is kind of a perceptive tribute to the destiny of the masses swimming through the ocean of likelihood. It stars
, who has been her good friend for the past ten years and had also started his career at the same time she had. In one of her interviews she concluded that, from now on, she would compose scripts just for herself.
