An actor, director, and a producer Sanjay Khan is most famous for his role in The Sword of Tipu Sultan. He has acted in various films, Haqeeqat being his debut. He worked as an actor till 80s and later ventured as a director-producer. Sanjay was born in Bangalore in a Muslim liberal family. He is married to Zarine Katrak, a well-liked model of the 1960s. He played the lead as Tipu Sultan in the show. It was during its shooting that the set caught major fire and the death toll was 52. Sanjay was also injured and suffered 65% burns and had to undergo 73 surgeries. It was his passion that helped him fight and recover in 13 months and returns to shoot. Sanjay is also famous for the show, The Great Maratha, which depicted the bravery of Marathas during the war of Panipat. This show was popular because of the grandeur shown on television for the first time. Indian mythology drama, Jai Hanuman was also Sanjay’s work. It depicted everything from the birth of the Lord Hanuman on TV. His oldest works include Kranti and Maharthi, An 1857 drama. Apart from acting and directing, Sanjay loves imported cars and animals.

He likes horse riding and he owns Prince Khartoum, the only horse in India to have won Bangalore Derby (1971), Indian Derby (1972), and the Indian Turf Invitation Cup (1972). He likes reading. He has also saved land to build a charity hospital. Sanjay’s dream resort is the Golden Palms in Bangalore, which he built himself. It’s a 150 room hotel with India’s largest Swimming pool with 300,000 litres of water. The interiors were by Zarine Katrak. The five star Hotel and Spa Golden Palms was Sanjay’s till 2010.
