Roger Nair is a producer, director, writer, and distributor. He was born on 4th January 1972 in India. He has worked in both Bollywood and Hollywood in Canada and India. He started his career by interning at Hollywood sets in Vancouver, which raised his interest in filmmaking. He set up his production company in 1995 in Toronto and Vancouver. The company became a full production house in 2001. In 2003, the first film released under his own banner was Supari.
In 2007, he launched his integrated production and distribution company by the name Lionheart Productions. The launch of the production was followed by the world premiere of the film Guru and the subsequent proposal of AbhishekBacchan to AishwaryaRai. Later, they got engaged at Elgin theatre, where the launch of the production house took place. Guru was the first Indian film to have world premiere outside India.
Nair also made Quick Gun Murugan in 2009, which was the first feature film to premiere at the largest screen in the world at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Nair is a descendant of DewanMokham Chand (who was the most distinguished general of Ranjith Singh, the ruler of the Sikh empire) and a human rights activist as well. He is now serving as the chairman of the South Asian of Human Rights Association (SAHRA).
He is also an executive member of the Toronto Film board. Nair has won many awards, which include the Distinguished Citizen Award City of Toronto in 2003, Award of Excellence City of Toronto in 2004, Canada Day Award for Support of Multiculturalism in 2007, and Queen’s medal for Human Rights Work in 2012.
