Manmohan Shetty, one of the famous Indian film producer and entrepreneur, was born in Mangalore. After his initial schooling in Mangalore he went to persue arts at Mumbai’s ‘Somaiya College’. Later he founded Adlabs Films Ltd., which has since then shaped into the country’s largest media and entertainment firms. In 1976 Manmohan Shetty started his firm Adlabs Films as an advertising company. Soon this corporation ventured into processing feature films. The corporation produced films like Hip Hip Hurray, Holi, Chakra and many more. The firm also bagged, ‘National award’ for their technical contribution to Indian Cinema. The company was also behind launching India’s first and largest IMAX dome in 2001 at Wadal, Mumbai It was also in a big way, responsible for introducing multiplex culture in India. He also started Walkwater Media, in 2007 which became an integrated business producing digital entertainment across films, television, animation, other media as well. His project Adlabs Imagica, is a theme park costing around Rs.1600 Cr. This park is located between Mumbai and Pune. He was accused of insider trading and was fined for Rs.1 crore, but was later cleared by SEBI and SAT, after he appealed to Securities Appellate Terminal and the fine imposed on him was reduced to Rs. 25 lakhs. Shetty also was once the chairman of ‘National Film Development Corporation’
