Bhupendra Kumar Modi, popularly known as Dr. M, is a visionary, telecom tycoon, with about three decades of experience in the business industry. He nearly has three and a half decades of business brilliance and is known for being an inventive “futurpreneur”. He is the manufacturer of many firsts in India viz. Photocopier, Floppy disk, and Fax Machine. He is also the provider of India’s first mobile phone services, Wi-Fi smartphones and affordable handsets. He took the road less travelled and paved the way for new business norms, thus departing from the regularised family business rules. B K Modi is also a celebrated humanitarian; he is on a worldwide mission to pull everyone together as a global civilian beyond the barriers of nationality, gender, and religion, which resulted in him founding the Global Citizen Forum.

Bhupendra Kumar Modi was born to Mr. Gujarmal Modi and Mrs. Dayawati Modi in Modinagar, in the year 1949, first of his eleven siblings to be born after independence. His father, Mr. Gujarmal Modi is one of the most renowned businesspeople in the yester years. He founded many businesses like Sugar Mills, Tin factories, and Rubber factory. Mr. Gujarmal Modi is the establisher of the Indian city Modinagar, by setting up Modi Group of Companies. Mrs. Dayawati Modi is a philanthropist. She contributed significantly to the society, predominantly in the education field. Bhupendra Kumar Modi finished his formal schooling at Scindia School in Gwalior. B K Modi graduated from Banaras Hindu University (IIT – BHU) with a chemical engineering degree.

He also has a doctorate in Financial Management that will be another feather in his cap, along with an MBA degree from USC and a Doctor of Letters in Industrial Management. Bhupendra Kumar Modi is married to Mrs. Veena Modi. His children – Dilip Modi, Divya Modi, and Ritika Modi are the board of directors of S Mobility Limited. Bhupendra Kumar Modi’s career started with the family business – Modi Steels. He was instrumental in setting up an excellent tyre manufacturing company in India in 1975 when he shared a partnership with Continental Tyres (Germany). Later, he collaborated with many other known names in the business like Xerox (to form Modi Xerox), Alcatel Modi Network Systems, and subsequently established his empire of cellular and telecom services with Spice Digital (formerly Cellebrum) in the year 2000. Following Spice Digital, B K Modi founded many subsidiaries of Spice Global like Spice Finance, Spice Enfotainment, and Spice BPO Services etc.

B K Modi is a keen philanthropist and aims to unite every person without any discrimination. He has won many accolades for his work in the field of human welfare, including the Ambassador for Peace Award at GCF, London. Dr. M is also the recipient of US House of Representative’s appreciation in 2004. He later won other honours like Outstanding Telecom and Informatics Entrepreneur, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce Award, and coordinator of the Millennium World Peace Summit. Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Modi aided the production of Bollywood films – No Problem and the critically acclaimed feature film OMG – Oh my God starring Paresh Rawal. Dr. M also produced Buddha – The King of Kings in 2013, which is a historical serial on Doordarshan and Zee TV. He is the originator of many books, including Hinduism – The Universal Truth, One God, Whispers of Peace and Performance – A Manager’s Challenge.
