Gurpreet Kaur Chadha is a Politician, Actress, Socialite, and Producer. She has been elected as the General Secretary of Mumbai Regional Mahila Congress Committee and is a member of the Congress Party for Mumbai district. Born on 14 December 1975, and raised in Delhi; Gurpreet learned diligence, hard work, appreciation, and devotion to the community from her parents. In 1995, she did her diploma in Nursery Teachers Training from the Bal Bharti Institute. She did her Graduation in Commerce. At the age of 19, she married her classmate, but only after a few years, the marriage did not work out and ended up in divorce. This seperation become a turning point in her life. She lived as a single parent to her daughters, Ananya and Gananya. Her daughter Ananya always aspired to become an actress, and got selected for a reality show in Mumbai due to which Gurpreet along with her daughters settled there. Soon, both her children started their acting careers.
During her teens, Gurpreet always dreamt of working in the film industry, and at the age of 32, she tried her chance at modeling. As a result, she participated in the Mrs. India contest in 2008 while acting in TV serials and movies simultaneously. She opened her production house called ‘Ananya Gananya Productions.’ She produced a documentary “Odyssey in Epoch”, based on the inhabitants of Mumbai, the Koli Community, who live in the 'Madh-Versova' area of Mumbai. It covered issues like child education, environmental pollution, human rights violation, transportation problems and medical health of the area. This documentary helped in to collect a Rs. 2,000,000 fund for a primary school to upgrade it with basic and modern facilities. It got selected for the screening at the famous “Kala Ghoda Festival” in Mumbai. 'Rising of Women', another documentary by her, was based on violence against women. It also highlighted successful women who have been influential members of the Indian society. She produced another short film, “Rising Women Awards” on 8th March 2011, on International Women’s Day and a documentary “Clean Daman” for Daman Municipal Corporation to support hygiene and health in the Union Territory. Gurpreet also helped in establishing a Hindustan Arts & Crafts exhibition, in Mumbai. This exhibition helps in providing food & shelter to artisans and daily wage laborers all over the country. In 2009, she was asked to join Mahila Congress as a Secretary, while she was handling the Internal media affairs of a Congress MLA. After a few years, she became the General Secretary. Gurpreet also runs an NGO, Punjabi Global Foundation, which conducts various events and seminars to promote the secularism of the area and the young talent in the field of arts, sports, and academics. For the Brihan-Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections held in February 2012, Gurpreet campaigned for four candidates of the party. All four of the candidates won within their respective constituencies. She has worked hard to resolve problems related potholes, debris, illegal constructions, drainage, and flooding, and participated in clean-up drives in various areas of the city. She carried out campaigns for free cardiac operations for the destitute people and also campaigned for elections in Mumbai, Delhi, and Daman and Diu. On 26th Nov 2009, she organized a Peace Rally in association with Abhimaan NGO.
Keeping in mind, the Mental Health problems of the citizens of our country, Gurpreet has started many counseling campaigns for the sake of Children, which helps in solving the pyschological problems of the children, and also providing counseling for Teachers in Schools, and Colleges. She is also very well-known for organizing many blood camps. Gurpreet has been active in International Affairs on social and ground level politics and was a participant in the seminar at BMC headquarters, conducted by ACYPL (American Centre for Young Political Leaders). Due to her sheer dedication and responsibility and her commitment towards the party in 2002 and 2003, the Tri Nagar Women's Wing of Congress in Delhi, appointed her as the General Secretary. Gurpreet has handled plenty of cases for women in distress and has helped them to rehabilitate. She has always been an optimistic leader in her community, where she instinctively integrated new solutions and innovative strategies to make people’s lives better. Overcoming all these, she is now a proud mother of two well-groomed children and a woman of substance.
