Shail Hada

Shail Hada, the famous voice behind the soulful renditions such as ‘Saawariya’, ‘Lahu Muh Lag Gaya’, ‘Tung Lak’ and numerous others is a small town boy who was born on April 11, 1975, in the ‘Rajasthani’ town of ‘Kota’. Shail, as well as his family, were serious about a career in music is a fact evident from the way his education progressed. His initial schooling happened at Kota itself at the St. Paul School, Mala Road which was followed by his B.A. and M.A. in Music from the ‘University of Kota’. Followed by this he did his ‘Sangeet Visharad’ from’ Gandharva Mahavidyalaya’ under the guidance of his Guru ‘Pt. Aaskaran Sharma’. Post his ‘Visharad’, he shifted to Mumbai and joined the Music Department at Mumbai University. During his tenure there, he won six gold decorations at different national rivalries. Shail Hada’s first break was with ‘Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s’ ‘Black’ where he sang the background vocals. Since then he has been collaborating with ‘Bhansali’ in one form or other without exception in all the films that the latter has directed. His shot of fame was however because of the music in Bhansali’s movie ‘Saawariya’ which was nominated as the best musical album for the year 2007. In ‘Saawariya’ itself, Shail worked as the assistant to composer Monty Sharma. Again, in ‘Guzaarish’, Shail filled in as the main aide music executive. He worked on the tracks ‘Udi’ and ‘Maza Saiba’ and also sang tracks with ‘KK’ and was the lead singer of ‘Udi’ along with ‘Sunidhi Chauhan’. Shail went on to win Stardust award in the New Sensation Male category for the song ‘Tera Zikr’ from ‘Guzaarish’ in 2011. Shail is a versatile personality and along with Hindi has also sung in ‘Tamil’ and ‘Telugu’. Shail says that his priorities were straight about contributing to the Music domain. Had he not been a singer, he would have become a composer. He maintains that Music is a domain in which you learn from both the experienced as well as young and he makes sure that he himself gets to learn. He says that as much as he wants to share his experiences of the Musical stream, he remains equally interested in knowing about others’ experiences too. As is with every musician, discipline and riyaaz form an integral part of his life too. He says that the habits have become so imbibed that he gets up and practices as well as maintains the adequate lifestyle as if he was breathing. According to him, the best time to do the riyaaz is at 4:30 a.m. but his advice to the budding artists is that the riyaaz should be done all throughout the day. Learning and singing is a continuous process and the more is the continuity the better the result.
