Vikas Kohli

Vikas Kohli is an Indian musician, music producer, and composer. He was born in Nepean, Ottawa. He is known for his creative fusions of North American and South Asian sounds. Vikas Kohli holds an honors degree in Mathematics and Philosophy from the Mississauga branch of the University of Toronto, Ontario in Canada. Later, he did Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduation at the Schulich School of Business of York University. In addition, he also holds a CFA charter. Vikas Kohli has been writing music since he was thirteen years of age, and he also went to art school. He gave up his career in finance in a brokerage firm in Canada, to follow his heart in the world of music. Vikas Kohli’s music love covers a variety of genres from jazz, hip-hop, punk, rock to metal, county, bhangra, and Bollywood pop. In 2003, Vikas Kohli founded “FatLabs,” a Canadian home recording studio in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

The studio attracts musicians from all over the world. Vikas Kohli’s most popular Bollywood composition is for the 2008 film “Mission Istanbul.” He performed his song from the film “Mission Istanbul,” live at the International Indian Film Academy Awards. He composed another music for the Canadian Film Centre’s “Shanti Baba Ram and the Dancers of Hope,” which aired on September 2, 2009, in Canada. The same year, he went on to compose the song “I Do. Do I?” Vikas Kohli then composed music for the short documentary ‘My Father, the Terrorist?’ in 2010, followed by ‘Rattan’ in 2012, ‘Words to Remember’ in 2013, and ‘Shipwrecked on a Great Lake’ in 2014.

Vikas Kohli was honored with the Trailblazer Award from the ReelWorld Film Festival, making him the first music composer to receive this award. In addition, he is the first composer to receive a Voice Achievers Award. Moreover, he was also rewarded with a MARTY award from the Mississauga Arts council. Vikas Kohli is a part & member of the advisory board of the Blackwood Art Gallery. He is a jury member for FACTOR and a member of the Screen Composers Guild of Canada. Also, he is a Committee member of the Arts and Culture Grant Assessment for the City of Mississauga. Vikas Kohli produced an original live concert in 2011 entitled “Bollywood Monster Mashup,” which included over 50 musicians and dancers playing popular Indian music, from the black and white era to the modern hits of Bollywood. The event was attended by almost 15,000 people.
