Among the Great Kalakars of India, Ustad Vilayat Khan stands out as one of the great sitarists. His family of Musicians created great artists recognized worldwide. Vilayat’s father, Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan Sahib, was a famous sitarist in the 80s and 90s of the 19th century. At a very early period, Vinayat had too many responsibilities because of his father’s demise at the age of 13. However, he managed to handle the duties, which led him to love the habit of discipline, love, and peace. Vilayat was born on 28th August 1928 in the small village of Gauripur (in Bangladesh). He is among the famous musicians of the 20th century. Apparently, in his life, he learned the creativity of playing the sitar from his uncle, Zinda Hussain Khan. He was titled "Gayaki Ang" during this period. Further, he worked in Satyajit Ray’s movie Jalsagar to score music.
He collaborated on multiple films, contributing to the score music with numerous recordings and international tours. Despite being awarded the Padma Bhushan, he refused to accept it. He never stopped embracing the title Aftab-e-Sitar (Sun of Sitar), given by the former President, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed.
