Being the descendant of one of the most esteemed lineages of eastern classical music, music is embedded in his genes. His great grandfather, Ustad Imdad Khan co-developed the bass sitar also known as surbahar. His grandfather Ustad Enayat Khan was at the leading edge of all the sitar players of his time.

Growing in a family surrounded with the greatest sitarist of all the times, Khan had an interest to perform from a very young age and to follow his bloodline. His learning process started off with singing and later at the age of 14 he started playing sitar. Under the guidance of his father he excelled in ‘ Khayal Story soon >> Read More... ’ and later learned ‘Gayaki Ang’. He gave his first public performance in Lucknow at the age of nine. Living and studying abroad for half of his life has helped him in having a diverse taste in music. He has now taken to create fusion music, blending the genres of the east and the west.

He has performed in various countries like Europe, Japan, USA, Malaysia, Canada, Singapore and has performed in such prestigious venues as Royal Albert Hall in London, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C, Carnegie Hall and Alicetuly Hall in New York.

On 21st of September 2000, he released his album ‘Tradition’ along side his father and legendary tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain which touched the hearts of many music lovers and earned worldwide admiration. His album ‘Ziver’ released on 7th November, 2006 featured popular tracks such as Chhaap Tilak and Ali Maula. It received no. 1 rating in MTV and Billboard charts in India. Khan also received his first Grammy nomination for this album. After the success of Ziver he composed his next album ‘Sawariya’ released by Saregama India ltd on 16th of January, 2010. Hidayat Husain Khan has lent his brilliance on many film scores, like Mira Nair's 'Kama Sutra'. In 1999, he completed a background track for Discovery Channel program on tigers titled "Tracking a Legend".
