Ujwal Nagar is a Hindustani music vocalist. He had a musical childhood, being born and brought up in a family devoted to Hindustani music. Guru Urmila Nagar, a renowned artist in Kathak and Hindustani music, was his mother. Ujwal got his initial training from her. His first professional training was under the late Ustad Bashir Ahmad Khan of Sikar. Ujwal made his debut solo performance at the age of 15. Later, he went on to take guidance from Pandit Somnath Mardur and Pandit Shriram Umdekar. Ujwal was an ardent learner of Hindustani music.
His unyielding passion for the same made him the recipient of Sahitya Kala Parishad and Central government scholarships sponsored by the Ministry of Culture. He became well known among music lovers as the lead classical singer and one of the founders of the Indie band Advaita. The band showcased a whole new kind of music by combining the classical and rock genres. Ujwal has always described the band to be partly responsible for the recognition he got for his talents. Ujwal still conducts classical music concerts all by himself. He claims that choosing between the band and his solo performances is based purely on his inner callings.
