Pandit Brij Narayan is an Indian Classical Music maestro who hails from Rajasthan. Having received training under his father, Narayan knew how to play the sarangi, but his interest lay in playing the sarod. His uncle Chatur Lal taught him tabla, and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan trained him in sarod. He received the distinguished President’s Gold Medal in 1967 for the top instrumentalist position in the All India Radio Competition. In 1969, he did a concert tour of Afghanistan with his father and became a scholar of Bharat Sangeet Sabha. It was in the 1970s when he started his tours of Europe and Africa. He was invited to the Munich Olympics in 1972.
In the same year, Narayan completed his graduation in the Music program from the Mumbai University. Indian films, such as Mai Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978), recorded Narayan's talent. In 2015, He was honoured with the Sangeet Natak Academi Award.
