was an Indian classical Flautist and music teacher. He specialised in classical Carnatic music. He was born on 10 May 1922. He got initial music training from her sister, Smt. Balaamba. He learned to play flute from T. R. Mahalingam, who is popularly known as Flute Mali. Shankar Rao worked as a Post Master for a long time. Due to his love for Carnatic classical music, he used to visit his home often. After settling in Bangalore, he performed various flute concerts in India and abroad. Shankar Rao achieved many accolades and awards throughout his music career. In 2008, he received the prestigious Rajyothsava award.
Shankar Rao was majorly involved in organizing the Prapancha institution, aiming to educate and motivate youngsters about classical Carnatic music. He also collaborated with Divakars Speciality Hospital in Bangalore to study the influence of Carnatic music on human health. Shankar Rao was presented with the title of ‘Venugana Visharada’ by A. N.
