Vijayaa Shanker is a versatile and a talented singer-composer. Before trying in Bollywood, she had the experience of working with the artists from the UK, US, and Denmark. She has even collaborated with
for the 2010 cover of “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara.” She has even done a few voiceovers in animated films and sung some commercial jingles for Vicco Turmeric, Maaza, Maggi, Dalda, Amway and many others. Vijayaa comes from South India where, apparently, learning music is in the culture. But she already had the sense of music in herself. She was learning Carnatic music as a part of her culture. As she grew up, she started winning singing competitions in school and college. She was the lead singer of her theater society in her college days. And so, her interest in music gained enough to make a career out of it. Although at first, she was not sure if she would have a long journey in singing or composing. But then, she kept moving on and gained, even more, passion and interest in music.
She then took the training in Hindustani Music and Opera. Opera taught her the essence of western vocal culture. Now her journey in Mumbai began. Her first professional job as a singer and writer and composer was with the animation series for kids. She then worked in the famous animated movie “Oh God Ganesh.” She also did the voiceover for the characters of ‘Mushak’ and ‘Ved Vyas.’ She then started to work with her brother on the religious album “Shiv Shloka.” Although, it was just meant to be distributed among the relatives, but eventually, it turned out to be nice. So, it was taken to Times Music; they liked it and was added to their catalog. Vijayaa wanted it to be global and not to be stuck with Carnatic or Hindustani music.
Talking about her career in films, she has given her voice to a lot of songs in the South and has also composed a song for Kannada film. She has sung songs with many famous names like Leslie Lewis,
and even a song in Bangla with Shaan. But still, she has to achieve more in Bollywood.
