Sumita Sanyal is a Bengali film actress. She was born as Manjula Sanyal on October 9, 1945, in Darjeeling, India to Girija Golkunda Sanyal. She was initially named as Suchorita by Bibhuti Laha, the director of her film, Khokhababur Pratyabartan. Later, director Kanak Mukhopadhyay shortened her name to Sumita.
In a career that spans more than 50 years, Sumita has already acted in over 50 Bengali films including Tapan Sinha’s Sagina Mahato, opposite
in the lead roles, and in Tarun Majumdar’s suspense thriller film, Kuheli. She also donned few Hindi films most notably in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s 1971 drama films, Anand and Guddi.
She also acted in few television serials and stage shows and became closely associated to Ranga Sabha. Sumita is married to Subodh Roy, a film editor, and they have been blessed with a son.
