Eventually at the age of 32, she was diagnosed with cancer, which caused her death on 10th December 1996 in the New York City. She was buried at the Mt. Oliver Crescent Cemetery, Queens, NYC. She wrote a letter to her daughter, which Trishala made public in 2015. The note was titled ‘Destination’ and shows the pain she was in during her last few days.
