She was born in a Parsi family. She was born and brought up in Mumbai. Mehr lived in the Parsi Colony of Dadar. She did her schooling from J.B.Vachha School, Mumbai.

Before stepping into modelling, her major interests were swimming, badminton, and other sports. He started her modelling career in the 1980s. Her first achievement was winning the Miss India title in the year 1986 when she was 16. She attended the Miss Universe pageant representing India in the same year in Panama City. At the age of 24, she received an offer from London.
