Bipin Gupta

Bipin Gupta was an Indian Actor. He was born on 21st of August in the year 1905 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He died at the age of 76 on 9th September 1981. He has acted both in Bengali and Hindi cinema. He rose to fame in the 1930s. Some of his notable works are ‘Khilona’ in the year 1970, ‘Gharana’ in 1961, 1954’s ‘Jagriti’ and ‘Baiju Bawra’ in the year 1952. Bipin was the fifth child of Khemankari Devi and Trailokya Nath Gupta. They lived in Meerut initially but later moved to Barrackpore. He completed his education in Barrackpore Government High School and Chinsura Training school. He later got married to Annapurna Devi. Bipin made his debut with the flick ‘Choker Bali’ based on Rabindranath Tagore’s novel, which was directed by Sotu Sen in the year 1938. In his entire career, he has worked in a total of 300 movies and he has played hero only once, that is, in the flick ‘Noori’. In the year 1934, he started working in a radio station. In the next two years, he became a stage artist. He stayed for about 30 years in the city of Mumbai to establish his position in Bollywood. He has also directed and produced a movie which was never released. In the year 1964, his production ‘Daal Mein Kala’ came out. It was directed by Satyen Bose and had Nimmi, Abhi Bhattacharya and Kishore Kumar as lead roles. The flick became a big hit. In the late 1930s, Bipin established himself as a stage artist and vigorously worked in the theatre industry. By the end of the 1950s, he came back to the Indian Cinema. He worked in ‘Baiju Bawra’ and ‘Tamasha’ in the year 1952. In 1954, he worked in the flick ‘Jagriti’. ‘Devta’ and ‘Sailaab’ came out in the year 1956. His film ‘Bhabhi’ in 1957 was a hit. The year 1958, saw two of Bipin’s movies ‘Raj Tilak’ and ‘Amar Deep’. He gained a lot of popularity in the decade of 1960s with movies like Sasural, Grahasti, Gharana, Mamta, Majhli Didi, Amrapali, Pyar Ka Sapna, Raja Aur Runk and much more. This decade was the highest point of Bipin’s career. In the next decade, only a few movies by Bipin came out. Jeevan Mrityu, Khilona, and Kasauti were released in the early 1970s after which Bipin wasn’t seen in Indian cinema. He passed away in the year 1981 in Kolkata.
