Kamal Hazarika was born and raised in Assam, India. Kamal went to Government High School and then went to St. Edmund College in Shillong. Kamal is widely known as a lyricist; one of his most famous songs is Ae Senai Moi Jaao Devi. Before becoming a lyricist, Kamal worked in various places. At first, he started working in Arunachal Pradesh; later, he provided his services under the Indian High Commission, London. Kamal also worked at the Hindustan Steel Company. He joined back the Indian High Commission services and retired in 1992.
Hazarika has penned down over 40 songs in Bengali. His famous songs are Gaonburhar Jiyori and Senehor Doldal. He also lent his voice to Kolkata radio. In his hometown, Guwahati, he organized workshops to increase the cultural heritage. Kamal, in London, had set up an organization called Pragjyoti Kala Parishad. Kamal left behind a legacy that will remain untouched for decades; he died at 92. He was married to Dhira Hazarika and had two children, a daughter, and a son.
