Jalees Sherwani

Jalees Sherwani is a dialogue writer for Hindi movies. He made his debut with south Indian films. His association with Ushakiran Movies and Padmalaya Studios banner fetched him the right selection of movies where he could deliver the apt essence for the dialogues, that matched with the movie script.

Jalees began his film dialogue writing in G. Hanumantha Rao's movie 'Kanwarlal' that released in 1988. The film based on the Telugu movie, 'Aahuthi.’ His another project to follow up soon included 'Pratighaat (1987) which was a remake of Telugu film Pratighatana in which Vijayshanti played the lead role. The film became super hit in Bollywood for its dialogues, Movies like Pratighat hogged a huge share of the credit for his success.

Anyone would agree that Pratighaat was an impactful story at that time. Its protagnists were well-defined, and storyline were easily identifiable. Every dialogue written by him matched the essence of every character. While the south Indian version of the movies had kept the script as the base of the narration.

Since some movies were the remake of Telugu into Hindi, this dialogue writer did not deviate from the script to meet the demand of the medium. And one cannot find any distortion at all in his dialogues.

Well-known Bollywood Movies like Sangraam, 'Game' (1993), 'Ek Tha Raja’, 'Mafia', 'Loafer' (1996), 'Mrityudaata' (1997) and ‘Hafta Vasuli' (1998) had Jalees Sherwani as the dialogue writer. His dialogues gave voice to characters played by Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff,  Dharmendra, Ajay Devgn, Karishma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Ayesha Jhulka, Amrish Puri and more.

Jalees replaced Dr. Rahi Masoom Reza and soon became a famous dialogue writer in Bollywood Masala movies. He worked with the likes of Boney Kapoor and Ramesh J. Sharma.

In the year 2004, he wrote the script and dialogues for the movie 'Inteqam: The Perfect Game; which had Manoj Bajpayee in lead role.

Later on, after Bollywood met  the three Khans, he became a lyricist , especially for Salman Khan in movies like 'Tere Naam,’ ‘Garv,’ 'Heroes,’ 'Wanted,’  'Dabangg,’ and 'Dabangg -2' which were all blockbuster hits.

Some of the music composers for whom he wrote songs are Sajid-Wajid, Anu Malik, Himesh Reshammiya and Lalit Pandit.
