Hindi Journalist Javed Anand

Javed Anand is a journalist by profession. He is of Indian origin. He was born in the middle of 20th century, that is, in the year, 1950. He was born in a middle-class Muslim family. He has done his graduation in Metallurgy Engineering from the Indian Institute Of Technology, Mumbai in 1971. During his education, he worked for a social action group known as Rapid Economic Development of India. After his education, he became the writer of a newspaper, ‘The Daily’ in Mumbai in 1971.

After four years that is in 1987, Javed Anand got married to Teesta Setalvad, a girl from a Gujarati family. Teesta Setalvad is also a journalist by profession. She is also the secretary of an organization named, Citizens of Justice and Peace. This couple has two children, son Jibran Anand and daughter Tamara Anand.FromDecember 1992-January 1993, Bombay riots took place in Mumbai, in which nearly 900 people died. And in the same period that is in December 1993, the destruction of Babri Mosque took place. Due to these two incidents, Javed with his wife left their jobs and launched a monthly magazine to fight against these riots and named the magazine as ‘Communalism Combat.’

This magazine came out in mid-1993. For the revenue to maintain Communalism Combat, he started Sabrang Communication and Publishing Pvt Ltd to do some professional assignment. In 2003, Anand talked about his decision in an interview “We (he and his wife) felt that at Business India and Sunday Observer, we could only be doing full-time Journalism and not be fully involved with what was burning us up.” Javed Anand is the founding member of an organization named as Citizen for Justice and Peace, and his wife was the secretary of the same organization. In 2003, the first National Meeting of ‘Muslim for Secular Democracy’ took place and Javed Anand was the participant of the same. And in the same meeting, Javed Anand was selected as General Secretary of that group.

Till 2011, Javed Anand was the General Secretary of that group. In January 2014, Javed Anand and his team were blamed for the misuse of the funds of Rs. 15 million which they had collected for the construction of Gulbarg Society’s Museum to construct the Monument for Riot Victims. The Crime Branch of Ahmedabad had firstly registered a report against JavedAnand and his team. Their bail was not granted by Local Court of Ahmedabad and Gujarat High Court in March 2014 and February 2015 respectively. Then Supreme Court passed the stay to arrest Javed Anand and his wife.
