Inder Malhotra was an Indian author, an editor and a journalist. The veteran editor worked for some of leading Indian newspaper; he worked as a resident editor for The Statesman for five years and as an Indian correspondent for The Guardian for twelve years.
Inder also worked as the editor in chief for The Time of India. He took birth in Chandigarh, India in the year 1930. Inder had reserved columns in the leading newspapers of the country. As an author, he wrote the personal biography of Indira Gandhi in the year 1991; he also authored three other books.
He took his last breath on 11th June 2016. He took birth in Chandigarh, India in the year 1930. He was married to Rekha Malhotra; his wife was a classical dancer who did international tours with her dance group. She passed away at the age of 81 in 2007.
Rekha and Inder have a son Anil Rewari; he is a painter. Inder went to Punjab, University for graduation in Journalism and after that; he started his career like most other journalists. He became a junior reporter in Delhi at the United Press of India.
Those were the times of independence and Inder slowly climbed his way; his years in reporting honed his eye for detail in an affable manner. In 1965, he joined as an Indian correspondent for the international newspaper, The Guardian. His style and sharp memory for detailed helped him write for the prestigious daily. He wrote for the Guardian from 1965 to 1978. Besides writing for The Guarding, Inder also acted as the resident editor for the Indian newspaper The Statesman.
He took the position in late 60’ and continued for almost five years until he became the editor for The Time of India in 1978. Inder continued to contribute for the newspaper for eight years; he resigned in 1986. In 1987, he got honored with the Nehru fellowship followed by Woodrow Wilson fellowship in 1991.
Inder wrote the personal biography of Indira Gandhi in the year 1989, he also went on to write books like India, trapped in uncertainty and Dynasties of India and beyond. Inder had reserved columns in different newspapers. In 2013, he received the Lifetime Achievement Ramnath Goenka Award; he took his last breath on 11th June 2016 in Delhi.
