Sanchita Ajjampur

Sanchita Ajjampur is a renowned fashion designer in India. She was born in Mumbai. Her mother owned a textile company dedicated to reviving traditional weaves. At the age of three, she moved to Europe. She then spent her early life moving around Vienna, Austria, and the UK. She studied art and got a degree in fashion from the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne in Paris and a Fashion and Technology Master's degree (distinction) from Domus Academy in Milan. She then moved to Japan to conduct a workshop with Issey Miyake.

Under the guidance of Martand Singh and Pupul Jayakar, she contributed to research projects on Indian heritage and textiles in rural and urban areas of India. In the early 1990s, she worked with Romeo Gigli in Italy, designing Callaghan, produced by Zamasport in Novara. She collaborated with Moschino in Milan and Tom Ford at Gucci in Florence and London. As a consultant designer, she worked for brands like Moschino, Aspesi, Cassoli, Iceberg, Blumarine, Gucci, Diesel, and Armani.

In 2005, she returned to India and launched her own company and fashion label, 'Sanchita'.Her company deals with luxury Indo-Western fashion brands in clothing, shoes & accessories for women, men and children. Her business is in Bangalore. It is ranked 13th on the international level among other countries. She also collaborated with Blender's Pride to show her collection of clothing inspired by the legendary ballet of Igor Stravinsky at Lakme Fashion Week.

In an interview with Mint, she talked about her multicultural influence on her wardrobe. During her time in Vienna, she derived inspiration from artists like  Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. She was bestowed upon with the highest honour in Italy Ordine della Stella d’Italia or The Order of the Star of Italy—by the Italian President Sergio Mattarella for her priceless contribution to the fashion industry.
