Her mother Jayashree worked as a director and screenwriter while her uncle was a well-known director. She spent her childhood in Canada as well as in India. Born into a family of artists, she passed her days among the influence of people from the Industry. In her teenage life, she did dance choreography in her uncle’s shows and later got into modeling.

Shona also did theatre and in one of the plays portrayed the role of Calpurnia, Caesar’s wife, from the Shakespeare’s play Julius Caeser. Later, she went to Vancouver in 1997 to join a film school. There she made a short movie, Maya that won an award at the institute level. For almost four years she honed her skills in filmmaking and returned to India in 2001. In the meantime, she got married to Raman Lamba and at twenty-six gave birth to Mokshda, her first child.
