In the world of cinematographers, Ranajit Ray is another popular name. He has completed his graduation in Physics from Jadavpur University. Later, Ranajit Ray went to Pune to join the Film and Television Institute of India. Over there, he did a specialization degree in cinematography. After returning from there he started up his own production house named Kino-Eye. In 1990 he debuted as a director with the movie Chena Athena. Apart from directing, he has also worked in different roles as a producer and a photographer.
In 2001 Ajopa Gacha, one of his short films, was selected and screened in Indian Panorama. In 2014 he won the Rajat Kamal for his documentary, Documentation of Clay Image Makers of Kumartuli. He has achieved this award in the 62nd National Film Award. His other documentary Aoleang won the same award in the same award show.
