Born and brought up in Mumbai, Vibha Bakshi went to the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in Mumbai and joined St Xavier’s College for her higher studies. She moved to the United States to continue her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication and later Journalism and Broadcasting from Boston University.

Right after her graduation, she began her journey as a business reporter and anchor at CNBC, New York. She is also a key member in setting up CNBC India. Vibha Bakshi is happily married to Vishal Bakshi, and the couple has two sons, Varun and Vir. She has received an Honorary Doctorate from Boston University. During her time as a reporter, Vibha Bakshi realized the job was not her true calling. So, she quit the job and partnered with academy award winner Maryann Deleo to produce documentaries such as ‘Terror at Home: Domestic Violence in America’ and ‘Too Hot Not to Handle’ for Lifetime TV and HBO, respectively.

Vibha Bakshi’s first documentary as a director, ‘Pratham: Read India Movement’ got released in 2009. She has directed many documentaries on Tata Medical Centre Film, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Falaknuma Palace, Taj West End, Taj Safaris, Lake Palace, and Rambagh Palace. In 2015, Vibha Bakshi released her documentary ‘Daughters of Mother India,’ which about the 2012 Delhi Gangrape. In the film, she shows how as a society, we hardly changed even after such a horrific incident. The courageous effort of Vibha Bakshi received appreciations from critics stating it as a historic step for women in India. The film bagged numerous other awards at New York Indian Film Festival, CAM International Film Festival, New Zee Indian Women Awards, South Asia SABRE Awards, and more. Following the success of ‘Daughters of Mother India,’ Vibha Bakshi took an even solid subject to address for her next project supporting UN’s He For She movement. The 2019 documentary film ‘Son Rise’ revolves around the state of Haryana, where the issue of gender inequality is prevalent.

It shows the story of a farmer who went against society to marry a gang-rape victim and how he fought for her justice. Ever since the release, the documentary impressed everyone and left a remarkable impact. The movie won the Best Film Non-Feature and Best Editing Non-Feature at the 66th National Film Awards. Also, ‘Son Rise’ has been screened at nearly 140 schools.
