Nilanjan Bhattacharya is a renowned director, writer, and artist in India. Nilanjan has a fictional background but seeing people’s knowledge, mainly tribal people’s, made him enter the field of biodiversity. He visited various corners of the world to get to the depth of biodiversity. Nilanjan found that food is another element that is an unavoidable factor. It Is not just about the recipe, instead of more about how it is collected, consumed, and its relation with nature. So, he decided to research biodiversity through food and appreciate the relationship of Adivasis with forests, on which they highly depend.
One can say that Nilanjan’s idea is unique. He has opted for something very different and new from usual. He has been working on biodiversity for fifteen years. A few of his films and artworks include Johar Welcome to Our World, Ninety Degrees, Rain in the Mirror, Fishing out of Time, and Quiet Flows the Stream. Nilanjan’s works were widely appreciated.
As a result, the same was displayed nationally and globally, such as at Mumbai International Film Festival, Goteborg International Film Festival, European Kunsthalle, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Experiment Gallery, and Welcome Collection Gallery. In respect of Nilanjan’s enormous contribution to cinematography, in 2005 and 2010, he received the President’s Award of India. Through his films, Nilanjan Bhattacharya has well raised the ignored issues.
