Ravichandran - Director

Ravichandran is an Indian cinema artist who has contributed to the Tamil film industry. Ravichandran was born on 17 March 1971. Ravichandran is a relative of Raj Bharath as Bharath is a nephew of the filmmaker. In 1997, Sivasakthi Pandian chose Ravichandran to direct his project Kannedhirey Thondrinal which had Prashanth and Simran as the feature’s protagonists. Kannedhirey Thondrinal revolved around the subject of love and friendships. With the Tamil censor board granting the film a ‘U’ certificate, Kannedhirey Thondrinal released on 11 September 1998 to favorable reviews. In fact, it continued its run for over 25 weeks which is a sign of an achievement in the history of Kollywood cinema. Later, he directed Sandhitha Velai which featured Karthik, Roja, and Kausalya. Although the producers hoped to make use of a festive season, Sandhitha Velai did not perform up to the expectations. But, it got its Telugu version in the form of Nani’s Gentleman. Ravichandran made a high-profile movie, Majunu. Majunu had several Bollywood artists such as Rinke Khanna (sister of Twinkle Khanna), Rati Agnihotri, and Sonu Sood. It also marked the second collaboration between Prashanth and Ravichandran. As a matter of fact, Dimple Kapadia gave her consent to her daughter to act in it after finding the script impressive. Majunu got positive reviews from the critics as “The Hindu” praised Ravichandran for his style of direction. In an interview, Ravichandran had mentioned that he worked towards a movie which would have a perfect mix of entertainment and mature content. Ravichandran also admitted that he found difficulties to shoot the scenes in the presence of a huge crowd in a city like Kolkata. So, he decided to film action sequences in a separate set. Ravichandran announced “Coffee Shop” as his next motion picture with Nandha. However, they renamed it to Urchagam to be eligible for the grants by the government since the administration required the project to have a Tamil name. In 2016, Ravichandran worked with his nephew, Raj Bharath for the first time in Natpadhiganam 79. Apart from acting, Ravichandran also allowed Bharath to assist him for post-production work as well.Ravichandran also gave youngsters a chance to showcase their acting skills in Natpadhiganam 79. However, the film opened to a lukewarm reception from the audience as they criticized its screenplay.
