Esmayeel Shroff is a film director and writer from India, born on 3rd February 1957, in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. His real name is S.V Ismail. His father, Shroff Abdul Kareem, was a gold merchant and his mother was Maryam Bi. His brother, Moin Uddin Shroff was a script writer. He completed his graduation in sound engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli. To pursue his interest in films, he later moved to Mumbai. He worked with director Bhim Singh, as an assistant director for ‘Sadhu Aur Shaitaan' (Saint and Devil), that released in 1968.
Esmayeel made his directorial debut with the Hindi film 'Thodisi Bewafaii', that released in the year 1980. It worked well at the box office.
His brother, Moin Uddin Shroff wrote the script for it. Some of Esmayeels notable hit movies includes Agar If, God and Gun, Love 86, Police Public, etc. But he gained more recognition for his film ‘Agar If’ (1977). He also worked as a screenplay writer for Bulundi (1981) and Saal Solvan Chadya (1977).
