Shuchi Talati is a filmmaker of Indian origin. She focuses on challenging the dominant narratives surrounding gender, sexuality, and South Asian identity. Talati holds a degree from the American Film Institute and resides in New York City. She is an active member of the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective, the Bitchitra Collective, and the Freelance Solidarity Project. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from St. Xavier’s College and a postgraduate diploma in Social Communications from Sophia Polytechnic in Mumbai. Her acclaimed short film, A Period Piece, was selected for SXSW. Talati's previous film, Mae and Ash, was a Vimeo Staff Pick and won numerous awards. She is working on her first feature film, Girls Will Be Girls, which explores sexual awakening in a conservative Indian boarding school.
It has been awarded grants from the CNC's Aide Aux Cinémas du Monde, ArteKINO, and VFF Talent Award at the Berlinale Co-Production Market. It has also been selected for Gotham Week, Berlinale Script Station, and the Jerusalem Film Lab. Additionally; she has been recognized by the New York State Council for the Arts and Région Île-de-France for her work. In addition to her directing work, she has produced various projects, including Indisposed, which was selected for Berlinale Talents, and Maya Tanaka's Honolulu, which received the Tribeca Through Her Lens grant. Talati has also contributed to documentaries, such as Netflix's We Are: Brooklyn Saints, and HBO's Wyatt Cenac's Problem Areas, which addressed the issue of racist policing. One of her episodes in the latter was nominated for a GLAAD award.
