Anupama Srinivasan is an Indian Independent Filmmaker. She is famous for her unusual, out-of-the-box storytelling and documentary representation. Anupama also performs the work of camera and sound for her films. Her films cover many diverse and unorthodox themes. Anupama was born in Delhi suburb area. She was very passionate about films from a very young age. After completing her 12th, she went abroad.

She attended the prestigious Harvard University to complete BA in Applied Mathematics from there. She also got the chance to take various courses in Still Photography and Non-Fiction Filmmaking from the University. She returned to India and finished a three-year course in Film Direction at Pune in 2001. The affiliated institute was famous Film and Television Institute of India. Her first big break was the film I Wonder…On My Own and On My Own Again (2013). Various film festivals selected the film in their must-watch category.

Some of the important festivals were 100 Years of Cinema Centenary Festival, FIPA Biarritz, Kara Film Fest and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival. After that, she collaborated with colleague director PushpaRawat to make ground-breaking documentary Nirnay (2014). The film was an account of the female independence, restrictions, problems, Rawat’s confrontation with his real-life ex-boyfriend and how she deals with it. This unique way of storytelling and reality mesmerized the critics upon its release.

Eventually, Nirnay won the Pramod Pati Most Innovative Film Award in Mumbai International Film Festival 2014. Anupama’s next venture was again a collaboration with Pushpa named Mod (2016). The unorthodox documentary follows the lives of the so-called anti-social boys gathering at a place. It chronicles their hapless situation, happiness, uncertainty, and lifestyle. The film shows these worthless boys in a different light. The movie earned huge critical acclaim for its honest and innovative way of direction and the subject of the film.

Besides filmmaking, Anupama is a skilled photographer and till now held two Photography Exhibitions in New Delhi. She is also enthusiastic about working with children and teaching them filmmaking. That is why she organizes numerous workshops in filmmaking for children and young people from 2006. She also mentored many short films of young filmmakers in this purpose. Anupama conducts documentary workshops in all the film schools throughout India. Anupama was the festival director of IAWRT Asian Women’s Film Festival (2013-2015).

She was also the co-director of an innovative film festival organized by IAWRT India in 2011. The festival’s name was Emerging Cinemas. She also held the post of Associate Course Director at the Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts and Communication, New Delhi during 2013-2014.
