Anamika Haksar

Anamika Haksar is an Indian director who works prominently in the Hindi film and entertainment industry. She is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She was born in Delhi. Her father, P N Haksar, was a diplomat, and her mother, Urmila Sapru, was a teacher. Her sister is a human rights lawyer. She did her higher education at the National School Of Drama (NSD) in Delhi. After that, she went to the State Institute Of Theatrical Arts in Moscow, USSR, where she trained from 1982 to 1988. She has also studied at Lady Shri Ram College For Women in Delhi. She is specialized in Direction. She is also a teacher.

She works based on movements, visual imagery, poetry, and realism. She is often referred to as an experimentalist. Her debut in theatre production was through Reminiscences of Krishna, which she produced in 1988. She has also done Viy, the theatrical version of Nikolai Gogol’s novella. She has also staged plays based on Silappadikaram and Tagore’s works.

She worked as a writer and director for the short film Pagdandi (2013), and the movie, Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon (2019), which was also produced by her. She also worked as an acting coach for the movies Samsara (2001) and Issaq (2013). She has also directed famous plays and projects like Composition On Water, Antar Yatra, and Raj Darpan.

She has received a Diploma of Excellence in Theatre Direction. In 1995, she received the Sanskriti Award for her contribution to the theatre. She also won the Silver Crow Pheasant Award at the Kerala International Film Festival in 2018 for her work Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon, in the best debut director category. She also won the Jury Award at the Los Angeles Indian Film Festival and also won at the Film Critics Circle of India in 2019 for her abovementioned work.
