Amit Madheshiya is a Mumbai-based filmmaker and photographer. Born in 1982, he has achieved recognition in both these fields. Amit earned a degree in English Literature from Hindu College, Delhi University. He is a photographer, he received the Sony World Photography Award for Arts and Entertainment in 2009. In the year 2010, he was granted a fellowship by the National Foundation of India for his work focusing on children in Mumbai. As a director, his debut film "The Cinema Traveller" won the Special Jury Prize for L'Oeil d'or; Le Prix du documentaire at the Cannes Film Festival 2016. Some of his works include: "The Great Abandonment" (2021), "The Hour of Lynching, Vigilante Violence in India" (2019) and "Searching for Saraswati" (2018).
In 2011 his photography skills were acknowledged and appreciated by the world press. Amit received World Photography Awards from institutions like Sundance Institute, New York Times Arts Council of England and Academy of Motion Picture Arts in 2009 and 2011. Additionally, he is affiliated with the India Foundation for the Arts and Sundance Labs as a fellow. He achieved success with his film "The Cinema Travellers" earning 19 awards worldwide and screening at 125 film festivals. He was also honored with the Presidents Medal in India for his work with children, receiving recognition internationally for his efforts and continuing to dedicate himself to this cause in Mumbai.
