Altaf Mazid was a director, producer, and critic in Assamese cinema, born in 1957 in Guwahati. He was an Engineer by profession and worked in Assam’s Department of Public Health Engineering. Before venturing into the movie industry, Altaf had been a film critic. He is associated with the films Byoktigata Aru Goponio, Jibon, Lakhtokiat Golam, Our Common Future, The Joy of Giving, Las Vegasat, Bhal Khabar, Crazy on the Rocks, Kunir Kutil Dosha, Boliya Pitair Sohoki Sotal, Chitra Sutram, and Rahashyar Bitchaku. In 2009, he directed the film Boliya Pitaier Sohoki Sootal, and in 2016, he helmed Sabin Alun. Sabin Alun is a documentary film. It was spun around the Karbi people. This is his last movie.

Altaf Mazid was a jury at the 10th International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, 9th Dubai International Film Festival, International Film Festival of India, 7th Bengaluru International Film Festival, Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, and 2015 International Film Festival of Kerala. He had also served as a jury member at the 2014 Moscow International Festival, and the International Federation of Film Critics appointed him. The International Film Festival of India appointed him as a member of the selection committee too. He had also served as the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. Altaf Mazid got the credit of screening the digital version of the first Assamese movie, Joymoti, at various film festivals.

He received the Best Director Award for his film Jibon at the Pyongyang International Film Festival in 2000. In 2008, he received the Best Film Critic Award at the National Film Awards The National Film Awards gets presented every year >> Read More... for Bollywood Melodies. In the same year, he received the National Award for Best Anthropological/Ethnographic Film for Boliya Pitaier Sohoki Sootal. He was married and had a daughter. Altaf suffered from myocardial infarction and died on 13th April 2016 in Bangalore.

Altaf Mazid Rija was an Indian film director, producer and, critic. He was born in 1957 and, served as an executive engineer in Assam at the department of Public Health Engineers. He had a daughter. At first, he served as a jury of various film festivals and also worked as a film critic in Assamese cinema. Later he was appointed as a jury member by the International Federation of Film Critics in 2014 at the Moscow International Film Festival. He directed many films. Some of his creations are Chitra Sutram(2010), Boliya Pitaier Sohoki Sootal(2009), Rhashyar Bitchaku(2014), etc.

Altaf Mazid Rija got many awards. He got the Best director award at Pyongyang International Film Festival for the film Jibon(1998). He got Best Film Critic awards at National Film Awards for the film Bollywood Melodies. He also got Best Anthropological/ethnographic film at National Film Awards for the movie Boliya Pitaier Sohoki Sootal. Sadly, he died of myocardial infarction on 16th April 2016.
