This was his Test debut against New Zealand in the latter half of 2003. Chopra had a successful start to his international career, striking two half-centuries in the second Test against New Zealand at Mohali in 2003–04. He participated in numerous strong partnerships with Virender Sehwag during the 2003–2004 tour to Australia, including two-century opening partnerships in Melbourne and Sydney.

He spent a lot of time providing Star Sports with televised anniversaries. He provided commentary for 7 Network and ‘Sony Ten 2’ during the Australia vs. India test series in 2018–19. He left Star Sports in January 2023 and joined the Viacom 18 network. He then started providing Hindi commentary for them in the SA20 Twenty20 league on the Sports 18 and Jio Cinema app. Aakash Chopra also publishes match previews and reviews on his YouTube channel.
