Amit Paul is an Indian singer. He was a participant in
Indian Idol Season 3 and gained his popularity after his appearance on that reality TV show. The judges-
Udit Narayan and
Anu Malik- liked his performances and considered him to be amongst the top singers of that season. He was a fellow participant of
Emon Chatterjee and many more. Although Prashant Tamang bagged the winning award for the season, Paul fared well at the runners-up position. Amit Paul hails from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. After his acclamation in the Indian Idol Season 3, he was named as the Brand Ambassador of Peace, Communal Harmony and Excellence for the state of Meghalaya by the Meghalaya Government. It was believed that after his appearance on Indian Idol, he brought fame and recognition to his hometown and state. This highlight brought harmony between the two rivals- tribal and non-tribal populations- of the state, which began living in harmony henceforth.
His role was an important one in bringing peace in the midst of disruption and chaos. His popular song performances of the show were Pehla Nasha, Yaad Aa Rahi Hai,
Kora Kagaz among many other performances of his. One of the very famous songs, Pyaar Ka Nasha from the movie
Luck By Chance was sung by him alongside Mahalaxmi Iyer. He also sang a Nepali song called Kina Timile (why did you?). Post Indian Idol, Paul appeared in television shows like Ek Se Badhkar Ek, which aired on Zee TV; and K for Kishore. The latter was a show dedicated to participants mimicking the musical genius,
Kishore Kumar. Later, he quit the show because of illness. His fame never saw an end. He participated in many world tours and toured USA, Hong Kong, the UK, South Africa and made his marks in many other countries on the map.
