Rama Kuknur's name comes from the prestigious classical dancers; she is a well-known Bharatnatyam dancer from Pune, Maharashtra. After completing her master's in dance from Lalit Kala Kendra, Pune University, Rama further sharpened her dancing skills under highly inspiring, internationally renowned classical dancer, Dr. Sucheta Bhide-Chapekar. Rama is also a Gold medalist in dance.Â
Rama started learning dance and has been passionate about it since she was only 7 years old. Under the guidance of classical guru Dr. Sucheta, Rama professionally started her dancing journey in 2007. She has given several solo performances in Pune, Aurangabad, Nasik, and Mumbai, where her art was highly admired by the people. Rama has also given numerous performances with her mentor and guru. One of the highly acclaimed acts is the 'Sawai Gandharva Music Festival of 2015, where Rama performed alongside Dr. Sucheta. This particular performance earned Rama many accolades and appreciation.
In stage acts, Rama performs the dance role of Meghnad and has also choreographed and designed the costumes for the widely-known play, Meghdoot. Alongside being a dancer, Rama is also an actress. Usually, her dance acts are praised for two things, the graceful Nritya, and the vibrant Abhinaya. Her expressions and steps make her performance connect to a larger audience.
Rama is quite known for performing a fusion of Bharatnatyam and Hindustani classical, also known as NrityaGanga Bani. Rama was the winner of the Firodiya Competition for three continuous years. She also held the prestigious CCRT Dance Scholarship for six years. Aside from these, she has won many state and national awards.
