Sudha Karmakar was a Veteran Actress, award-winning theatre artist, and director who was born in 1934 in Mumbai. She graduated from Elphinstone College in Mumbai. She was known for ‘ Rain Basera Story soon >> Read More... ’, and ‘Pehla Pyar’. She is also the pioneer of Children’s theatre in Maharastra, Mumbai which is known as ‘Bal Rangbhumi- Little Theatre’. She directed many films for children, and in 1959 with the help of Mumbai Marath Sahitya Sangha, she initiated the movement with the first-ever children’s drama ‘Madhumanjiri’. Not only she directed manhy plays she also acted in many plays.
Many stars in the Marathi film and stage industry emerged through this movement. She won a lot of recognition for her work and also studied theatre for children. She was honored with the ‘Prabhakar Panshikar Rangbhumi Jeev Gaurav’ award in 2012 for conducting the Maharastra State Cultural Operations Directorate. She passed away on 5 th February 2018 at the age of 84.
