Snehprabha Pradhan

Snehprabha Pradhan was an actress and singer born on October 28, 1915, in Nagpur, Maharashtra. She was born to Vitthalarao Pradhan and Tarabai. Her father was a social reformer. Her mother was his fourth wife and about 25 years younger than him. Her parent's marriage shocked society as they belonged to different castes, and back then, it was not much acceptable. Vitthalarao and Tarabai both had the same vision, supported equality, and believed in Literacy for all. They believed in the idea of the Right to Education and Education for all and worked towards spreading mass literacy. When Snehprabha was born, Pradhan and Tarabai were confused between the names Snehalata and Prabhavati, and they finally settled for Snehprabha. She was very eager to learn. Her parents traveled to different parts of India to learn about diverse cultures.

She became interested in learning new languages, and in her teenage, she knew four languages. Snehprabha was a pet lover; she always loved the company of animals. Tarabai and Snehprabha had good relations with their stepsisters. Still, later one-day difference arose between her mother and elder Stepsister, and it became the reason for separation. Snehprabha was studying medicine, but later, in 1939, her mother was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. She had to give up her medical career and started supporting her mother financially. But that didn't stop her; she was the house of many talents. She knows Acting, Singing, and Drama. Because of her talent, she got many offers from Fim Industry. But she declined those offers. Ultimately, she accepted an offer from Chimanbhai Desai. She acted in the movie Civil Marriage opposite Harish and Arun. Snehprabha debuted as a screenwriter for the first time through R S Junnarkar's film Ladaai Ke Baad in 1943. In the film Pardesi, she sparkled as the bright star playing the role of Motilal's sister, giving her best performance. After that she did many movies such as Naya Tarana, Ladaai Ke Baad, Pahili Mangalagur, Mahakavi Kalidasa, Din Raat and many more. On December 24, 1946, Snehprabha lost her mother. She had a great career ahead; she retired from Hindi films with the film Birha Ki Raat. She met Dr. Shirodkar, with whom she developed a beautiful relationship. On December 7, 1993, she left the world. Her autobiography was first published in Marathi Weekly(Manoos) in 1972.
