TA Jayalakshmi was an Indian Tamil dance and theatre actress. She was born in 1927, in Tirumalairayan Pattanam, near Karaikal Tamil Nadu. Jayalakshmi grew up with the support of her grandmother. She started learning the Bharata dance from her grandmother at the age of seven. She studied at Chidambaram up to sixth standard, then returned to her hometown. She won a prize for dancing at the age of eight in Thanjavur infront of the collector of Thanjavur. She got the opportunity to show her talent in dancing in many places.
Sabaratnam Pillai brought Jayalakshmi to Chennai and introduced her to Jupiter Pictures. She got a chance to play the role of a mysterious woman who dances in the movie Kannagi. After that, she got a chance to dance in several movies, such as Kubera Kusela, Kannada Harichandra, and Prabhavathy. After that, she joined a theatre group and acted in many plays and dramas. She also got a chance to play the lead role in a movie named Naam Iruvar. After that, she got a chance to appear in several movies.
