Umakant Mishra was an actor, lawyer and former legislator from Bhanjanagar Assembly constituency. He was born on July 14, 1939 at Sanakodanda village in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district, Odisha. His father was a noted social activist Jagannath Mishra. He was married to Smt. Bijaya Laxmi Mishra. Umakant Mishra completed his law degree and worked as a lawyer at Bhanjanagar court. He also was elected as MLA of congress party in 1985 in his constituency. He has also worked as the Chairperson of OREDA (Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency) Corporation. For a brief while, he was also the Senate Member of Berhampur University. He has also contributed to the film industry. He established his acting career with the film Amadabata(1964) and Bheegi Palko(1982). He has even written and performed several plays. He passed away on 25th May, 2021.
